Matthew "Matty" Whisman, of Lancaster's body was recovered from the Conowingo Creek in Cecil County, MD on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, PA State Police explained. This was just one day after they updated the missing person case to include a $2,000 reward offer, as Daily Voice reported.
Steven Gaddis of Nottingham, PA; Jeremy Absher of Mayesville, SC; and Alexander Whisman of Lancaster, PA, have been charged with homicide, kidnapping, and assault, in connection with this case.
PSP troopers took over the "suspicious disappearance" investigation on Wednesday, July 3, 2023. Their investigation determined that Matthew Whisman had been assaulted and kidnapped from his home on the 1100 block of Lancaster Pike on Wednesday, April 3.
Troopers connected his disappearance to his cooperation with an investigation into a shooting at a house in Rising Sun, Maryland, on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
After he was kidnapped, he was murdered, and his body was thrown off a bridge, according to PSP. His body was found about a mile south of the Pennsylvania-Maryland border.
Alexander Whisman was placed under house arrest on Friday, Oct. 4 (when he was still 17 years old) in connection with a Monday, Sept. 16 shooting, as we reported and according to his docket. Absher was arrested Thursday, Oct. 17, and has been held in the Lancaster County Prison. Gaddis's status was unavailable at the time of publishing.
